Traumatic brain and spinal cord injury is a leading cause of disability and death among children and young adults. Many of these injuries are preventable. That’s where ThinkFirst comes in. ThinkFirst seeks to educate
people of all ages, communities, organizations and policy makers about risky behavior and injury, with the aim of changing behavior. At the Ark-La-Tex Chapter of ThinkFirst, we teach people to “Use your mind to protect your body.”

We present educational programs at schools, businesses, community centers and other venues to raise awareness about injury prevention.

Why is injury prevention our focus? Each year, more than 500,000 traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries occur in the United States. Many of these are preventable.
The most common cause of such injuries is motor vehicle crashes, followed by violence, falls and sports. A split second of action can have devastating consequences. We are here to help you think before you act, so you avoid the pain and loss related to preventable injuries.

Remember: ThinkFirst.
The ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation offers a number of “Fast Facts” sheets, with safety tips and other information for children and adults. Please feel free to download and print copies for personal use, displaying in physician offices, and distributing at health fairs or other events.
